The Era of Darkness is Over
Veronica Nipah, the 53 year old farmer and coordinator of the Coalition of Women in Governance (COWIG) in the Tsakpe Community in the North Dayi District, has identified some challenges in the her community that have always contributed to the low number of women participating in the district assembly elections. Among these challenges are: fear, ignorance, insults and lack of finance.

She is of the view that the formation of COWIG has brought huge emancipation to the community members and largely to the North Dayi District Assembly. This has extensively contributed to the high number of elected female assembly members in the District as compared to other neighbouring districts.
Through her leadership roles with “Women for Development” – a group in her church and community volunteerism, she became the backbone for most women in the just ended district assembly elections. Veronica Nipah is now respected among women and even men in the community.
Veronica Nipah stressed that she and her community are not only proud of WiLDAF but feel indebted to the organization because it has emancipated them from the darkness of ignorance they found themselves in the bad old days.
