
The Rural Women's Empowerment Project (RWEP), aims to empower rural women on their legal and human rights to enable them claim those rights, advocate for changes to customary practices and policy reform at the district level.
More specifically, RWEP focal areas are:
- Empowering Rural Women on Their Legal and Human Rights
- Combating Violence against Women at the Community Level
- Promoting Women's Access and Ownership to land
- Promoting Women's Participation in Decision Making
This project, also undertakes a baseline study to assess level of understanding of legal rights, extent of women's participation and representation on family, community and district structures, discriminatory practices against girls and women, as well as number of formal and non-formal agencies for addressing problems within the districts.
The programmes have been funded by Oxfam Novib in the Eastern Region.
Summary of Community Based Legal Literacy Projects in Cocoa Growing Districts
Several important outcomes have flown from the Legal Literacy training workshop in Suhum Kraboar Coaltar and Akwapim North Districts.
55 Rural Women Farmers Undergo Training on Women's Human and Legal Right
WiLDAF Ghana, as part of the Rural Women’s Empowerment Project has trained 50 rural women in the Ga West Municipalities and the Dangme East Districts on issues mainly based on women’s legal and human rights.
