Women as Agents of Change
WiLDAF Ghana asked several local women their thoughts on how women act as agents of change.
I thank all women in the nation, and I give all women Ayekoo for the good work they have done. My advice is mostly for the up and coming youth, they should focus and study hard so they can get to a higher level, as high as where men are. As today is a special day for women, I think all women should come together to celebrate our hard work, and that we have come a long way. We should also go to church to pray for our youth and the entire nation. My advice for young girls is they should strive harder to achieve more, to become great women leaders in the future. Parents should also take good care of our young girls, to help them go down the right path.
In the past women were left in the kitchen to cook, but by God’s grace we now have the wisdom and knowledge to excel in our educations, which allows us to have higher positions in the country. A little advice that I have for parents is to strive hard to send the girl children to school. I wish to see that our government recognize us as women, and help us more forward with different resources; both financial and with encouragement. We need to be educated on how to utilise our resources because most people don’t know how to utilise our finances, but if we are educated on this, it will help us use it wisely. My advice to the new generation of young girls is to learn hard and to focus in their studies. Often times young girls are deceived my men and end up getting pregnant which stops them from going to school, causing their lives to be miserable. They should focus on their education and forget about men in order achieve a higher level to help our nation.
We thank God for making it possible for women to be recognized. In the past women did not attend school. Women are now in high positions. I encourage women to take good care of their children, and put them in school. Now we can see women who have been educated in our tertiary institutions, like the universities and colleges, are now working in offices, in the parliament houses as MPs, as leaders and churches. If we can educate most of our young ladies, they can achieve higher positions in the state. I would like to see financial support from our government, as well as support and encouragement from highly achieved women, in order to help our up and coming young girls. The government needs to help single parent families financially, by paying their children’s school fees because without money they cannot go to school. The government can also support our young girls by giving them jobs. My concern with todays’ young girls is teenage pregnancy. I advise all parents to handle their young girls carefully to prevent teenage pregnancies, and provide her with her basic needs. If their basic needs are met, these teenage pregnancies can be avoided.
