Constitutional Review and Gender
The implementing partners of the We Know Politics Project see the reviewing of the 1992 constitution as a unique opportunity to engage women from all over the country in the process. The publication is also in response to the constitution review commissions request for submissions by civil society organisations, individuals and other stakeholders.
The publication is structured in a Q and A format. It contains info that explains the key provision of the 1992 constitution in a simple way. The publication captures salient points under major chapters of the constitution, whilst providing alternative words to explain the rather technical language of the constitution. What a constitutional review is and the rationale for the review is included in the publication. Provisions in the constitution that touch on gender equality and specifically on women have also been highlighted. The publication contains issues arising from the women specific and gender equality provisions including gaps and omissions. A list of general concerns of women in Ghana is provided as well as proposals for inclusion in the review.
